The Ultimate Lightwind board for Advanced Riders

Looking for more precision and responsiveness in your light wind riding and/or parawing? The Emissary has arrived with the answer.

Through iterations of CFD simulation, prototyping, and testing, the design of the larger boards diverged into a unique sub range. While the smaller sizes delivers the answer to the dedicated foiler's everyday board, the 66 and 78 are the perfect compliment for low powered sail conditions. Be this parawinging or super lightwind winging, the Emissary's combination of efficiency and performance will get you foiling waves with the least amount of sail input.

The Problem and the Process

The question with the Emissary began as “how much volume can we remove while retaining the ability to get on foil with very low sail power”. Using the Flux as a start point, CFD software was applied to simulate a multitude of design variations. Testing efficiency through a range of different angles of attack began to form a representational efficiency model of each hull building speed and taking off. We then combined the features of the most successful variations and recursively tested the best designs against each other until a clear winner emerged. Minor refinements were made during rounds of prototyping and testing to improve usability with the end result being a hull optimized for the greatest possible efficiency at takeoff with the minimal possible volume.

Performance First Design

Driven by hydrodynamics, the minimized volume in the nose and tail significantly reduce swing-weight despite the longer lengths. The width is based on the ideal stance width of the target size riders controlling higher aspect foils ideal for underpowered conditions.

Although the design compromises some of the incredible ease of use the Flux is known for, it provides advanced intermediate and above foilers the ability to further downsize their lightwind board while actually gaining low end capability.

**For a more intermediate/heavier rider friendly parawing board the 84L Flux, 95L SuperMarine, and 105L SuperMarine are also great options.

Each Emissary is shipped with our new deckpad material factory installed. Being dedicated wave boards, the Emissaries have no strap inserts to maximally reduce weight. For a board more suitable to jumping and freestyle check out the Flux.

**By popular demand we are doing a limited run of Emissary boards with inserts which will be completed end March, message us to reserve or make a note in your order to specify a board with inserts.

Confidence inspiring

Rest assured that the features that provide the Flux its incredible smooth touchdown recovery have been carried over to the new hull shape, so when the wind starts cranking, the Emissary won’t hold you back.

Although designed as a dedicated lightwind board, some of our beta testers have been loving these larger models as a one board quiver. This is even more relevant if your local spot is an inland lake or other light wind destination where the 66L and 78L Emissary get you on the smallest possible board for your local conditions while still not holding you back when traveling to spots with cranking conditions.

Take off and Release...

The tail shape has been optimized for building speed in a straight line while minimizing drag during the higher angles of attack needed for optimal foil take off.

In addition to hydrodynamic efficiency, the chines becoming progressively steeper towards the rear provide better rail clearance in critical turns as well as great release when the board does touch down at a high bank angle.

Sizing Reccomendations

Rather than the more versatile size range of the Flux, the 78L has been intentionally engineered for heavier riders (160 - 230lbs) while the 66L better serves lighter riders (120 - 180lbs).

While by no means a hard rule, those looking to use the Emissary for the intended purpose of a parawing or dedicated lightwind board will have the most success within the recommended weight.

The 78L is likely a better choice if you are 170lbs or above and your goal is upwind/downwind riding with a parawing.

The Perfect Fit

Zero-rocker through the standing area of the deck and a slightly more aggressive concave than the Flux provides a comfortable and locked in feeling while riding strapless.

The driving factor for the width of each board is to maintain just enough deck space for the ideal stance to ensure uncompromised control over high aspect foils during critical turns. For this reason, the rail shape at the top of the board has been sharpened and the deck pad extends as far out as possible.

Low Drag Carry Handle

Being slightly wider and thicker, the 78L Emissary includes a built in FCS II box and mini G10 fin.

The fin functions as a streamlined and lightweight handle for those whose arms are not long enough to carry the 78L like a surfboard. This system allows the fin to be reversed, providing two handle positions which balance a wider range of foil mounting positions.

Made in the EU

The Emissary is built to last. The Appletree factory in Portugal applies a full carbon layup over a CNC cut closed-cell foam core. Vacuum resin infusion technology is used to saturate the cloth and achieve the ideal fiber to resin ratio to optimize stiffness and durability.

This process is what allows Appletree to create a permanent bond to their proprietary foam core, and uniquely results in a board that will not be damaged by water ingress - even if the outer skin is damaged.

Along with their world renowned track reinforcing technology, the Emissary is a board you can rely on to maintain peak performance for years to come.

Emissary 78 l

This really does seem like the ultimate light wind board for the advanced rider. Got mine a few weeks ago (Mint condition- really great packaging job for shipping) and haven't wanted to ride anything else. I got mine with learning the parawing in mind, and it has really delivered- such a smooth, quick and easy transition from hull to foil with minimal power input. If I could only keep one board, this would be it, even in stronger wind (I'm 164 lb). Same top notch Appletree construction, beautiful shape, perfect concave on the deck. Thanks Greg for your continuing R+D and refinement of this high performance craft!

Can it get any better?

As we all know, learning this sport of foiling comes with its struggles. Often I find myself chasing different gear to correct a problem. After trying countless brands of boards and many dings, dents, and dollars later I stumbled upon the Omen Flux. My friend generously allowed me to try all the sizes; and I found each one to have its own characteristics and strong suits. I was blown away but its light wind capabilities and its perseverance on 60knot days in the gorge. However; this review is not about how great the Omen Flux is. The bar has been set even higher for me after purchasing and riding the Emissary. This board has opened up a whole new style of riding for me. Allowing me to get up and riding on the smallest of foils, and using the bare minimum size wing. I am not only going faster, turning harder, and riding longer; but I am also much more comfortable going out in poor wind conditions. I found this board to be extremely stable on the waters surface and extremely quick and effortless to pop onto foil. The foil track is very long which allows for any brand and style of foil. The deck pad is extremely grippy, yet won’t tear up your feet. The board is lightweight, durable, and extremely eye catching. Don’t be intimidated by the narrow design of this board. It is designed so well and stable that it is perfect for beginners and experts alike. While I’m no expert, I can confidently say I am happy with my purchase and will be riding this board for years to come. I do not have one negative thing to say about this board other than the fact it looks so good I am scared to scratch it! Did I mention I love this board? Thanks to the Omen team for providing yet again, another ground breaking innovation, and in my eyes, the best board on the market.
